mAAch ecute KANDA MANSEIBASHI
Indoor View
Tokyo Design Center inc. (TDC) Review
mAAch ecute is a commercial facility managed by JR East Station Retailing, making use of the platform of the former Manseibashi station and exisiting staircase. The design concept is derived from the spirit of preservation: the beautiful arches of the brick viaduct are left as they were, composing a mostly unmodified simple structure. The old staircase, which had been concealed since the station ceased to function in 1943, retains its initial look and is opened to passersby. The arched-brick space underneath the viaduct has been transformed into a shopping avenue. The deck spreads out toward the Kanda River, flowing along the viaduct, and emerging as another spacious and welcoming passageway, while the rooftop that had previously served as the platform is transformed into a glass-walled space with a scenic overlook.
