Japan International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD Japan) Review
Designed by Tadao Ando, the spatial composition of the museum is simple yet thoroughly thought out. The roof is made of a large iron plate. The type of lighting employed is characteristic of Ando’s architecture: a kind of space that finely controls natural light. The indoor illumination can be freely modified in accordance with the exposition held in the museum.
Japan Design Consultants Association (JDCA) Review
The structure of this design museum is a quintessence of the design concept. It provides space for exhibitions planned by such directors as Issey Miyake, Naoto Fukasawa, Taku Satoh, and Noriko Kawakami as well as for regular expositions covering a broad range of design genres.
